At 12:30 on Sunday afternoon, the Continental Village Fire Department was dispatched to a brush fire in the area of 181 Sprout Brook Road. First-arriving units from Continental Village and Mohegan Lake located the brush fire in the woods between Sprout Brook and Dogwood, in an area known as the Old Campgrounds. Units started the laborious task of establishing a fire line to contain the fire to an area of roughly 6 acres. Mutual aid was requested for brush trucks, ATVs, and manpower from Yorktown, Putnam Valley, and Buchanan. A hydrant on the service road leading to the Old Campgrounds was used to supply water to brush trucks and ATVs for fire suppression. The fire was contained and knocked down after four hours of work.
At 19:30 on Sunday night, CVFD was dispatched for a rekindle at the site of the original brush fire. On arrival, it was determined that the original fire line had been jumped. Tanker 11 and MA4 were first on the scene for fire suppression. Montrose, Buchanan, and Cold Spring were requested for brush trucks, ATVs, and manpower. CVFD, with mutual aid units, cut down a number of trees and treated hot spots through the course of a three-hour period. At 22:30, units were cleared from the area.
