January 15, 2024

On Monday morning at around 8:30AM the Continental Village Fire Department was dispatched for a reported structure fire at a residence on Roa Hook Road. Upon arrival of the first unit a 10-75 (working fire) was transmitted for a well involved fire on the first floor of the residence along with an update of possible parties still in the residence. Upon entering the structure to preform a primary search Car 2131 and a Cold Spring Chief found one child and one adult in the kitchen area of the residence both of whom had sustained burn injuries. After the parties were removed from the structure Car 2131 and the chief from Cold Spring reentered the structure to finish the primary search of the first floor and radioed that their search results yielded no additional victims. By this time 2 Engines from Continental Village and an Engine from Peekskill FD had arrived on scene and began knocking down the fire as it started to extend to the second floor. Additionally firefighters rescued approximately 7 dogs from the residence before the fire was placed under control at around 9:30AM. Both injured parties were treated at the scene and then transported to Westchester Medical Center. Due to the location of this address in an area without fire hydrant access, there was a large mutual aid response from surrounding agencies. Additional assistance was provided on scene and/or in quarters by Peekskill FD, Montrose Veterans Affairs Hospital FD, Putnam Valley FD, Lake Mohegan FD, Croton FD, Yorktown Heights FD, Buchanan FD, North Highlands FD, Cold Spring FD, Garrison FD, Fort Montgomery FD, Stony Point FD, Cortlandt Regional Paramedics, Peekskill EMS, Verplanck FD EMS, Garrison EMS. Westchester County Department of Emergency Services Origin & Cause Investigation Team handled the cause determination investigation with assistance by New York State Police and Westchester County Police Department. The cause is currently “undetermined” pending the completion and submission of the Origin & Cause Investigation Team’s report.
